    Dr. Dons Radio Repair?

Anyone have success or problems with Dr. Dons Radio Repair, who is located north of Houston? They have a flat fee for C2 radios that seems reasonable - $150 plus shipping, and only a few days turnaround. I sent them an email to see what they include and had this response:

"Restoration includes replacement of multiple components to insure proper operation including semiconductors and condensers. Mechanical Assemblies are stripped and lubricated. Tuner is aligned and adjusted. Chrome is detailed with special solvents to restore finish. (Does not remove pitting). Unit is quality assurance tested."

Many other places recommended in this forum mention weeks to months turnaround and in some cases double the price. Any experience with this place?

Just had a C3 radio repaired by Dr. Don's. Price, quality of service and turnaround time all excellent. Called back with an installation question and was treated very courteously. Excellent service in all ways.

Dr. Dons did my radio in the first part of this year. He did all that he advertised. It works great and looks good too.

Doctor Don's did my original 1967 radio. Quick turn around. Came back looking great. Only problem was he could get the AM to work. Very nice people.

Decided to take an old 65 radio and do a stereo conversion. Sent it to Westech. Now I have a radio that looks correct and plays like a new car radio. Couldn't be happier.

          Tim,
Dr. Don repaired/replaced the amplifiers on my 1990 Bose radio speakers. They work great and his turnaround time and pricing is reasonable. I highly recommend him.

I received my radio back from Dr. Don's yesterday and have reinstalled it in my C2. So far it is working great, much better than before. I can't complain about their service. Their turnaround time is really fast, particularly as compared to some of the other places I had checked with who were quoting at least 3 weeks and up to 2 months! Time will tell how well the refurb holds up, but so far so good!

If your radio was sent out for a "tune up" then Mister Don should have set your AM trim. It can't hurt to double check, but be sure to note your setting before fiddling with it.

Yep, I agree. I don't think I will mess with it. I was mainly wondering what it is for.... Thanks for the reply!!

I can be wrong but I always thought the ant trim "tuned" the radio to the ant on your specific vehicle for optimum performance. I do not think this can be done on a bench for this reason. I also do not believe its anything very hard to do. Follow the shop manual tune to the stations and adjust for best performance.

Stay away from WONDERBARMAN in Tennesse. He did me wrong big time.
Poor repairs, extra charges and very long turn around time.
                    Radio plays poorly. Big John
P.S. WonderBarMan has a very slick web site that will lead you down a
                    path of headaches.
This guy HAS THE GUTS TO JOIN NCRS, he even recently wrote a tech article
in the Driveline, however his quote to me when I was having all my problems
was "I could care less about Corvette owners", I have e-mails to back this all up. Good Luck...
