    New RPO Code?

Down below, Clem Z actually ADMITTED that he didn't know the meaning of a certain RPO code. Now, I say that he's got more guts than Zell Miller for making that admission. And he is also saying that he is firmly in the straight axle camp (well, actually, pre 1964, to be more ANAL about it). That's OK, because I have managed to memorize one or two Regular Production Option codes over the past many years. But, there's one that completely baffles me. Just what the hell is an "L7" (okay, it might be a musical "chord"). Is it a long forgotten RPO code?? I suspect that it is the big block hood-with-smallblock option, which appeared in early 1967.

Now, some of youse might remember a refrain from "Woolley Bully", by Sam The Sham And The Pharaoh's, where they reprise this INfamous option code. Is it possible that the rock 'n roll group was looking to grab a COPO in RPO disguise.

      Re: New RPO Code?

I didn't find the L7 code in the 1983 Parts and Illustration Catalog anywhere so I can't help on that.

However, if you take your left hand and make an "L" with the index finger and thumb, then make a "7" with the thumb and index finger on your right hand, and move them together, you have a "square".

Hatty told Matty, "Let's don't take no chance.
Let's not be L-seven, come and learn to dance."
      Wooly bully, wooly bully

"Let's not be L-seven" I interpret to mean "Let's not be square", which was still in the language back then.

          Correct!!!

L7 is slang for 'square'. If you attend a Paul McCartney concert you might be treated to a dissertation about how he and John Lennon replayed Woolie Bully repeatedly trying to understand what in (*&^ the lyric line was!!!! It wouldn't be until they did a US tour and met other musicians that the truth was revealed.... The English language is a common divider between our nations in large part due to slang!

McCartney's dissertion on the subject went on to mention his coining a counter phrase 'C-moon' that he worked into one of the songs on his first post-Beatles solo album (McCartney). He says he waited over 30-years for someone to question him on the meaning of this phrase and was a little dissapointed nobody ever asked!!!

To get the connection you have to conjure up the image of a crescent moon in opposite reflex to the letter 'C' to view a non-square oval/ellipse "()". Good rock trivia here!

            L7 happens to be an

alpha/numeric cross reference of a location in the building where I work. This also happens to be where the trash is piled awaiting the man with the smelly truck. Amazing coincidence I think.

                OK, Motor...Tell Us About...

                Your new grandvette!

I was over on chevrolet.com "Building my Chevy" tonight...Whaddya' get? Convertible or coupe? Wait a minute...Is it the convertible or Z06 that comes out in January? Anyway, what color did you get? Interior? AT or 6 spd? Z51 or magnetic selective ride control? Bose with navigation system? Polished wheels or regular?

What's up with the body colors this year...three shades of red and one of orange? (Revenge of Ontario Orange?) I didn't see some options on the website...like museum delivery.

precision red a corvette only color, the color that goes away in the middle of sept and is replaced by victory red,the same red as on thepickups and cavaliers. i am glad i got my order in soon enought to get the precision red because i would hate to have a corvette color that every 3rd vehicle on the road is painted. corvettes should have exclusive colors. i will now have a collectable corvette so i guess i should join NCRS. it is a coupe with auto trans,3.15 rear gear, see thru roof and the deluxe interior bpackage in red. i buy and sell every 2 years so i just buy what sells and skip all the extra cost stuff that bring no return on resale.

                    Re: OK, Motor...Tell Us About...

Awhile back, I went to one of the big Dallas dealers to look at the 2004's they had left (and they had a ton of them...about a 100!).

I asked the troller that came out how they were going to sell all those 2004s before the 2005s came out. He said that they expected the 2005s to be "signigicantly" higher in sticker price, and that some customers would opt for a 2004 after seeing the 2005's sticker. Well, I was reading the Road and Track review of the 2005 convertible today; it turns out the MSRP on the 2005 is actually LOWER than the 2004...about $1300 on the coupe. I guess maybe that was a BS story, and not the dealer's REAL strategy!

they are about $900 cheaper if you buy a 6 speed because last year the 6 speed was a $900 extra cost but this year it is not as it is included in the base price. a C-6 with either a auto or a 6 speed cost the same. some dealers now are giving up to $10,000 off on a new 04 C-5. that is why i sold mine last fall because i knew this was going to happen as the same thing happened to the C-4 when the C-5 came out. i have corvetteless all summer but i saved myself $5000/6000 by selling early

I saw a C6 at the local dealer in that Bronze color (they call it something Sunset). It really was sharp. This guy is a fairly big vette dealer and still had about 5 '04 Commemorative ZO6's there. He offered to pull the decals if I wanted one! I didn't get down to $, but as others point out, there's probably some deals to be had on the 04.

The volume Corvette dealers in the Detroit area have 2004's coming out of their eyeballs, and they're peddling them for $35K-$36K.
