64 Spin On Oil Filter Adapter

Are most all the spin on oil filter adapters the same quality or is one better than another? Anyone had any experience with Volunteer Products in TN??

I've seen several that are different quality in how they are made, but can't remember seeing (or even if) there were names associated with the items. Basically, you need to have good solid wide sealing areas.

Without seeing, I couldn't comment. Most I've seen have worked ok.

I've seen some good comments about the ones you can get at Car Quest auto parts. If you buy the one from Volunteer, ask them who makes it. I bought one from Corvette Central and it was a Mr. Gasket, that I could buy locally for half the price.

Good point, Tony. You might just run by your local (or call) parts stores and see what prices they have. And you can examine them personally if you want, to see what kind of quality they have.

The one I used was made by WIX. Excellant quality.

I couldnt find one on the WIX site but I did find one on the MR GASKET site. Could someone explain the part about using my engines bypass valve? Thanks

I'd go for a GM adapter, assume it is still available, if not, it must be easily found in salvage yards. Used a Mr Gasket adapter on my SWC and one cold winter night 50 miles from home, heard a thump, saw oil pressure drop and instantly cut the motor. Found the filter and parts of the broken adapter on the shoulder of the road. Phoned a friend to take me to a local towing service/junk yard where the guy had an adapter. As I recall the adapter snapped in half. Bad part, bad luck, who knows..... but for peace of mind go GM.

So a GM 68-82 spin on adapter will work on a 64 block? One vendor mentions using the 68-82 adapter on the earlier blocks but I heard it would not work. Which is correct?
