    69 Dash Light Issue

I just took possession of a 69 T-Top that looks good but has a few issues, namely a dash light problem. I changed the fuse & got the dash light to work. But the next day, they went out again. Changed the fuse again & it blew right away. Tried a 10 amp fuse but it blew too. Anyone have a similar problem?

I would suspect you have a hot wire grounding itself out. Difficult to fix without actually looking at the wire harness. You might start by looking at the obveous places that other people were working on, if there are any. Wiring that was poorly spliced, etc. Sometimes, people tap into a wire and they insulate it by wrapping black tape around it. When the black tape falls off, it either shorts out or intermittantly shorts out against something causeing the fuse to blow. That is where I would start. I bet you will find something like that. Look for wires that have been spliced into. After that, I would look for wires that are chaffed against sharp edges. You can poke around a little with a flash light and twist yourself up under the dash but if you don't find it that way, you will more than likely have to pull the dash pad. You can look at a wiring diagram and see for sure what exactly is on that circuit. That will give some guidance on where to look. Excuse any of my poor spelling. Good luck, Terry

Do not have access to my service manual right now, however check the cigar lighter condition and the wiring going to the glove box light in the center compartment behind the seats. The courtesy light activation switches are at the front of your doors. Hold the plunger when you remove them to keep the wired portion from twisting. Disconnect everything on the fused circuit if necessary to find the short and activate each component separately to see if it blows the fuse. If the clock is on the same fused circuit it could be the source. Something to always remember if you want to remove the plastic emergency brake console. There is a bolt that goes through the steel famework behind the emergency brake console. It is easily accessable for those who know its exact location. You can feel for this bolt by removing the storage tray in the compartment behind the passenger seat. Sitting on the passenger door sill I reach in with my left hand and have located it. The bolt, if yours is still in place and original type has a unique head and can be removed with a 1/4 inch ratchet. The bolt head is either 3/8 or 7/16 and has a unique shoulder compared to other bolts used in Corvettes.
