    Front Spring I.D.

Is there someone that can help me identify the application of a spring tag on my car? It has a green tag with part number 340195. My front end does seem to sit a little high and was wondering if it's the correct replacement spring for my application. I have have a '71 small block Lt-1.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Robert:

Standard suspension spring code is HS & part number is 3931823. Or HT & 3931824.

Thanks Warren, I'm aware of what should be on my car, I want to know what springs are on my car now?

Robert, if the tag doesn't have a two letter code on it, then they are not the original springs...the original springs have probably been replaced.

Since the number on the tag is not a seven digit number, the springs are probably also not GM replacement parts. I expect the spring and tag are from an after-market parts manufacturer like Eaton. That's where I would start looking; try the Eaton website below for contact information...maybe someone will be able to tell you if the tag/number is one of theirs.

          Robert:

Sorry, I apparently didn't read into your question correctly. I looked thru my Corvette parts book that is 1953 thru 1973. That number is not close to any of the front spring numbers listed for all Corvette applications during this time period.

Thanks guys. I guess this is why my front end sits a little too high. Can the correct springs still be ordered from the General? Would I quote the original part number?

            Thanks

GM #340195 was a front bumper strip used on 1974 and 1975 Chevrolet Monte Carlos without bumper guards. Consequently, you must have the number incorrect. When posting a question regarding a part number, you MUST get the number correct. Otherwise, it may create a lot of futile effort on the part of whoever is researching the part number. Such "futile effort" and unnecessary work could cause folks willing to research part numbers to cease said practice altogether.

                Joe,

I am very appreciative of your effort to help me, but not for the tongue lashing. In my post, I was 100% accurate with regards to the tag number. I went back out and verified the part number on the tag. It reads 340195. I never said it was a GM tag, but I hoped it was, by your response I guess it isn't.

Sorry if I caused any confusion on your part and any undue stress, but my original post was accurate. Thanks for the effort.

BTW, is the correct #3931823 springs still available from the General?

                Thanks

                  Robert-----

First of all, I don't regard my comments as a "tongue lashing". I was simply commenting on a problem that has surfaced on previous occasions and appeared to be a problem here. From your post I rightly or wrongly assumed that you were talking about a tag which appeared to be a GM part number tag. As I mentioned, GM #340195 belongs to the Monte Carlo bumper part. However, there was a Corvette front spring of GM #340519. Since that's, apparently, not what you have, I won't go into any detail regarding it.

GM #3931823 was discontinued in November, 1972 and replaced by GM #331316. GM #331316 was discontinued without supercession several years ago.

                    Thanks Joe,

I very much appreciate your assistance and I try my hardest to make sure that my posts are as accurate as possible. I can see how incorrect part numbers can be a source of confusion when you trying to help someone.

                    Keep up the great work,

                    Your friend
