    TORQUE SPEC NEEDED

Would someone please advise the torque spec for the valve cover bolts for a '64 with cast aluminum valve covers (365 HP). Much appreciated! Fred

    Re: TORQUE SPEC NEEDED

I have been using 150 inch pounds on my cast aluminum, 68's chrome ones, and magnesium covers.

The '63 Corvette Service Manual specifies 2 to 4 ft. lbs torque for valve covers. They do not differentiate steel to aluminum. On my '64 SHP aluminum covers I used the 4 ft. lbs. The screws are 1/4"-20 on cork gaskets which limits the torque. Be careful not to extrude the gaskets.
