    Insulation for under carpet

There are (2) kind of under layment insulation material for sale on Ebay. One is precut, black with alum backing (made by 1A auto-It # 2488722043), the other is Hi Temp insulation micro cell with alum on both sides, comes in bulk (made by MBauction, It# 2488904758) which would be best to use ? I am restoring a 63 SWC, will have it judged, but I am also looking for a better material, than the soft reproduction of orig underlayment.

AFAIK, 1963 didn't have ANY underlayment like you are talking about - least it wouldn't be corect from NCRS judging viewpoint! My recently restored Z06 has none

I just happen to be removing my old carpet in my SWC today as I get ready for the body removal. When I lefted the carpet I was surprised to find a well padded burlap type material underlayment (?).
I would like to replace it with the same material if any body knows what it is and where to get it.
I was going to post a thread tonite to ask where the best place is to purchase the "entire carpet kit". Guess I'll watch responses for Rainer's 63.

I can't say what was under your carpet, per the NCRS, but my friend and I used the bulk foil type material from Home Depot, to help reduce the cockpit temps in his BB. We used the carpet as a template, and cut the foil barrier material to fit under it. Piece of cake and quite cheap too.

Great, I'll take a look at that stuff my next trip up there. This burlapy stuff was kind of dusty and tore up, as I had a mouse move in for a couple of winters.

I just put in a product called dynamat http://www.dynamat.com/ The product I used is called dynamat. They also have what I believe is called tackmat. The dynamat is very thin and has a self adheasive. It is costly and heavy, but goes on sweet. It is thin enough that you can put original pad over it. It is costly enough that I just bought a box of nine sheets. The nine sheets will do the cockpit but not storage area of a midyear coupe. I am using what I belive is the tackmat as the pad in this area also to replace the original pad. I also had enough dynamat to do the wheel wells and cover the defferential area. I am using near original pad in the rear. Al Knock allowed me to buy one sheet of the original pad to cut in around the edges where a judge can lift the carpet to check the pad. I plan on driving my car alot, so comfort was a concern.

Most cars used what is called "jute" padding. After years of being in a car it can look like a "burlap". Mice love to make nests all over the car with this stuff. You can buy Jute padding at an auto upholstery shop. Sometimes it is the burlap color or it can be other colors. Today, some jute is made up of floor scraps from the fabric mills mixed with jute. It still works the same. If you can find a shop with the older version of jute, buy it. If not use what you can get. Its works the same but looks different.
