How do you determine ported versus non ported vacuum sources? I have been reading with great earnest about engine timing etc. but have yet to see how do determine. Thanks, Jon

install a vacuum gauge on the vacuum connection on the carb,if it show full vacuum at idle, throttle plates closed, you have non ported vacuum connection. if you must raise the engine speed to get a vacuum reading you have a ported vacuum connection. most carbs can be converted from ported to non ported connections if you want the keep the vacuum advance line connected to the orignal place on the carb.
