    Re: 56 2x4 automatic linkage

    Geoffrey,

I don't have specific knowledge about 56's or their carbs, and I'm not trying to be a smart a$$, but wouldn't the other carb have the same linkage. My guess is that it is a small screw with washer. The Black Book says those are Carter carbs so there may be a website with a schematic or diagram showing what goes there. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Just curious also, what was the final outcome to the Silver to Gold, Gold to Silver alchemy problem you had with your 68?

      no tapped hole,the shaft

is just "peened over" the throttle arm. i have fixed them by "repeening" but it is not a perment solution. since the shaft is most likely brass the only solution is to braze it. if the "double D" shape on the shaft is worn make sure you get it positioned correctly or the accerator pump will not work correctly

On mine the end of the shaft was peened over. Yours must have been tapped & a screw & washer used.

I repaired a couple of these by drilling and taping the shaft then useing a 1/4 inch brass bolt to fasten the plate to the shaft. Then I took and ground off most of the bolt head and peened it to look factory fresh. Or you could use a very small bead of silver solder to bond the two parts.
