I am removing the rear bumpers for plating. I have started with the right side bumper and have all the bolts and nuts removed on the right rear bumper except the second from the right. I was able to loosen the bolt but I can't figure out how to get a socket on the nut on the inside of the body. Do I have to remove the muffler and or the rear valance to get to the nut?

Re: 66 rear bumper removal
When I did the rears on my 67 I had to take the valance off to get the additional arm room I needed. I did not have to remove the muffler but one tip might be to loosen the rear hanger so it has a little movement. By doing this I was successfully able to work my arm in there and get all the bolts out and back in. Hope this helps. One after thought, I copper greased all my bolts upon re-assembly, the theory is when I go to take them out again they won't be seized.

Re: Copper Grease
A thought on the use of Copper or Aluminum Grease. When I did my `62 for the same reason (Easy removal in the future) I had a few bolts vibrate loose. It was suggested to me later that I should have used one of the Loctite products which can be removed in the future.- Top
