In preparation for renewing my State Inspection, I was checking the light operations. Unfortunately, the turnsiganl switch, (original to the car) has failed! I havea new switch and would like the procedure steps for taking the old one out and installing the new one. Most prominent problem I can foresee is fishing the plastic plug through the steering wheel column. Any helpful hints would be appreciated.

Re: C2 turn signal removal and replacement
Really don't have to fish anything thru as the wiring runs down a tube external to the column. Pull the wheel, and you will see the screws that are removed to release the bowl from the column, then proceed from there. Pretty good pictures in the service manual supplement as I recallBill Clupper #618- Top

Bill
I replaced the switch in my 65 last year. It's a little foggy but I remember having to release the wires from the crescent-shaped connectors to feed them through the steering column collar. I did not have the hub, etc. out of the column so I could not remove the collar. Make a good drawing or snap a digital pic of where the wires go back. I used an awl and scratched the wire color code into the plastic at the appropriate spot (I lean toward idiot proofing myself). Use a small flat bladed screw driver to reach into the connector to push the little tang down to release the wire spade connector from the plastic fitting. The spades should lock in place when you reinsert them. If not, gently pry the tang up a little so that it will catch.
Good luck!
