    Steve -

    It's a late June '75-built service replacement for a '71 LT-1.

      John,

So I can learn - explain how you arrived at that please. I also have a 71 LT1.
Also, how do you tell if you have a service replacement 4801 vs original one?

      Thanks

      Peter

          Peter:

The top number is the GM list #. The second number is the carburetor model #. Originals do not use the -1, this would indicate a change in the carburetor since originally issued as OEM usage. A good example would be a different metering block number used since originally issued. The third number is a julian date system used for manufacturing date. That is the 175th day of 1975, approximately June 15th or 16th most likely.

As a point of clarification. Some models of Holley carburetors did get a -1, or -1A, following the list number during their OEM run. The 1972 LT1 is one example.

              Terry,

I am at work now(I have 71 Lt1) but I think I have a 4801-1 carb with a build date of early August 70. Since they started making 71's in August 70, would Holley have already had a change that quickly? Since my car was built last week of August, how early would the 4801 without the -1 have been made that would have shown up on the car when it was put on the assembly line?

              Thanks

              Peter

                  Peter:

I have a '71 LS-6 coupe, April 20th build date. Original known carburetors on these cars have 4803. LS-6 cars were built thru July '71. I have a NOS LS-6 carburetor that has 4803-1 with a 132 date code, indicating 2nd week March 1971. The primary metering block number is a different number than on the 4803 carburetor. I haven't been able to verify if this later carburetor number is also in usage on original known cars.
