    Greenwood: Much better than I thought

    The Corvettes at Carlisle show had a collection of Greenwood C3 race and street models. I have a much greater appreciation for his accomplishments after viewing these beauties. There are 50 plus jpegs of these models in a somewhat chronological order. And darn, I even missed some later arrivals.

    I cannot stop drooling at 1000+ HP.

    What a cool thing to do by posting these photos! Thanks much! I'd convert my headlights like #48 at the drop of a hat if I could still get those parts from my local Chevy dealer !

      I believe that at one point you could purchase the lights from Dick Guldstrand, but I don't currently see them on his website.

      I saw them once on a street driven otherwise stock Corvette. I was in college at the time in the mid/late 80s, and there at a local store one night sat a gold 69 coupe with plexiglas covered headlights. It's the only time I've ever seen them on a non-racecar.

        I had heard the same regarding availablity through Guldstrand, but I have yet to call his shop. Though I'm building my '68 as if I may go for a Top Flight someday, I have no documentation or tank sticker for my shark, which is one reason why I am very tempted. Funny about you spotting a set on a gold coupe back in the 80's, for I saw them on a gold coupe w/ a black stinger around 1980 myself in Atlanta. Side pipes and American mags too. Am image my mind hangs on to Thanks for the note.

          There is/was a company that had said that they were going to do the lights. I do not believe that it was Guldstrand. Sal Carbone, see link, would be a good resource. I sold him the last set of covers that I had several years ago.

            Thanks Dick. Nice site - can't have too many of those! I filled out an inquiry form and will let you know what happens. I can see where this going - they will have them, then I'm going to have get the side pipes and American mags....then I'll have to start another shark with documentation to satisfy my original goal. Of course, I've always wanted another C2 big block, not to mention a '57 fuelie. God, I really like SWC's too....:D

              The BUG has bitten!! Lots of luck finding a set of Kustom headers. See the recent thread about them. If Sal has a set or can point you in the right direction, the headlamps will probably be easy. The wheels, from a practicality standpoint, I would probably use the current Americans which are aluminum. The originals (if my memory serves me were 15X8 1/2)were magnesium which tended to be porous. I had two sets with racing tires mounted. 7 of them would be flat in a matter of days, the eighth held air for several years. Go figure. Plus magnesium tends to become brittle with age. A set of over the counter wheels would be 30-35 years old.

                The bug first got me in 1954, when I got my first C1 model car for Christmas. I just returned from a two week hospital stint, so I have had ample time to bring "closure" to some issues that I have struggled with this year, and the one we're discussing here has to do with how I want my "driver" to be completed. I agree wholeheartedly about the American's having to be new stock, probably 8" because I already have the larger front spindles (by default) due to "adapting" a '73 big block frame to fit my '68 body. Thanks to my association with several local NSRA members, plus 3 street rodder family members, custom fabricated headers will be a no brainer. Ironically, the Guldstrand style headlights will be the challenge. My love affair with cars started with Corvettes, then I went to shoe box Chevy's, muscle cars of many faces, 928 Porsches, then returned to Corvettes in the last couple of years. I even have the good fortune of my rodder buddies more than just muttering acceptance of understanding my respect for Zora's babies.

                  A company in CA called PS engineering is reproducing those wheels (in aluminum), quite a few "vintage" racers use them...HN

                      You can find "PS" in Torrance CA 310-534-4477 he builds a "Minilite" and a "Torque Thrust" style wheel but be advised they aren`t cheap...the last I heard they were $1700 a set (but worth every penny)... HN
