I am installing a new set of upper and lower rubber bumpers on my midyear front end. There were no "old" upper bumpers on either side, and while up on jackstands, the top of the A arm's, of course, are resting against the frame, with no room to install the new bumpers.
I tried to jack up the lower A arm to compress the spring and get enough room to install the bumper, but it's not working (the spindles are supported, not hanging loose). The spring only compresses so much and then the car starts to lift off the jackstand. Should I get a spring compressor or just wait until the car is back on the ground?
After the upper bumper is installed, how much clearance should be between the top of the bumper and the A arm, when the car is sitting normally? I would just like to do this now, instead of later; it's going to be another 2 months before the car is back on the ground. Thanks for any information.
