    Key Switch???

Does any body know why A 1969 coupe would have a Key Switch in the rear, between the tail lights, at dead center? Was a burgler alarm an option on that vette? I know it wasn't to access the trunk! Sold my 69 a couple of years ago and never did find out why that was there.

Yes, the key operated switch at the location which you describe was used in 1969 for the optional UA6 alarm system.

Yes, Mike, alarms became available as an option in 1968 and standard equipment in 1972. In later years (late 1977 I think), the activation switch was integrated with the door lock, and some people do not know it is there.

We once had a customer who wanted us to find a problem with the $200 alarm he had paid someone to add to his 1978. We asked what had happened to the factory system, and he asked with a blank look, "What system?"

          Reba,
To activate the system, did you just turn the key in the rear when you left the vehicle unattended? I never did see any sensors in the door area either.

Sensor ARE in the door.... Without the optional anti-theft alarm, the sensors serve to trigger the door ajar warning lamp.

The 'how to' of arming and disarming the anti-theft system is covered in your copy of the owner's manual as well as in the NCRS Performance Verification manual. Yes, it's as easy as inserting a key in the rear deck's lock assy and turning it ON/OFF....
