Scratched Chrome Plating

Any advice for taking very light surface scratches out of an otherwise perfectly good chrome plated piece?? The kind that you can't even feel with your fingernail? It's almost like an imperfection in the surface finish. What kind of product would you use? I'm afraid I'll screw it up even worse!

Simichrome is a chrome polishing paste available at most any auto parts store with an excellent reputation for the task you propose....

After having worked in the chrome industry I do not use any chrome polishes at all on my car. Most chrome polishes are very abrasive. They do a really great job bringing out a shine on a rusty old truck bumper. I can't tell you how many freshly chromed items I have seen ruined by a well meaning guy who polished up his freshly chromed item with products like Autosol. You can hold it up to the lite and see fine scatches caused by the polish. It's like fine sandpaper. I treat my chrome like paint using paint products [maguires] and soft cloths. If you have scatch that can't be filled with paint swirl and scratch treatment etc., thats how it is. Any attempt to buff it out will result in buffing through to the nickle, tarnishing and discolouring will result.
