My '92 454 SS (Corvette wannabe)TBI displays no fuel during cranking and, as you might imagine, will not start. Yes there is fuel in the tank. Filter changed 1 month ago. This happened during a one month parking - ran when it was parked, won't run now. Did have to evict the ground squirrel that moved in to the engine compartment during that time. Have checked all fuses I can lay my test light on and wiring "appears" to have survived the rude rodent. Help please with diagnosis technique and in what order. Thanks in advance. Dennis

Re: No fuel at TBI ???
Dennis,
There should be a Schroeder valve in the fuel line (like a tire valve). With the key on, see if any fuel comes out when the valve is pressed. No fuel may mean Mr. fuel pump has died, or the fuse and relay feeding Mr. fuel pump are defective. I'm not sure where the fuel pump resides on that truck, but most often they are in the fuel tank(s). It should come as no surprise that they are a PITA to change. Verify the lack of fuel at the fuel rail and that the fuse and relay are good before going after the fuel pump. Given the encounter with Mrs. Rodent, a check of the wiring all the way to the fuel tank might be in order.
Some fuel injected vehicles have a wire connector in the engine compartment that runs directly to the fuel pump. Jumping this to a 12 volt source bypasses the fuel pump fuse, and relay. I don't know if your truck has that feature. Maybe someone else will know the answer to that. Do you have a service manual for the truck? There is usually a trouble shooting tree for this sort of thing in these newer manuals.Terry- Top

Re: No fuel at TBI ???
Should have a fuel pump relay you can check at cranking. There is an over ride in the circuit because the fuel pump will be tied into the oil pressure. When cranking it does not have to know if there is oil pressure but once it starts the fuel pump relay needs to see oil pressure. Sounds like the little friends damaged the wiring for the fuel pump circuit. If a meter shows voltage at the fuel pump relay when cranking then you most likely have a bad pump. There is no inbetween with those pumps. They work or they don't. My wife pulled away from a traffic light only to have the pump fail in the middle of the intersection. She sat there with idiots blowing their horns at her till two gentlemen pushed her over to the curb.- Top

Re: if it is the fuel pump
Clem - You just shot an arrow through my heart. What'cha think? Maybe a rollback to the sight of a trade-in? No way, I love this truck... Damn, I can R&R a C-1 pump in 30 minutes. Go figure... Dennis- Top

Re: if it is the fuel pump
The Price of progress Dennis! At least it has just one pump. The Cosworth Vega's have 2. One inline and one in the tank. And if they sit a while, you can kiss at least one of them goodby. I know, I replaced two sets of pumps on one of the cars.Dick Whittington- Top
