The vapor barriers on my car are the "clear", translucent variety. They're about the appearance of an empty plastic milk or water jug.

It's not difficult, at all, to tell if vapor barriers are installed. As you say, there is virtually always an amount of it that can be seen at the edge of the interface between the door panel and the door. The way that I understood the the original discussion was that it was impossible to tell if the vapor barriers installed were the original MOLDED variety or if the were non-molded, "home-made", "reproductions" fabricated from material similar to what the originals were made of. It was in that context that I stated it was impossible to tell. In my opion, any attempt to "wedge out" the door panel far enough to see if the vapor barriers installed are the molded, original style or otherwise would be completely foolhardy. If I were having my car judged and a judge resorted to that sort of inspection, I'd stop the judging process right then-and-there and drop out of the competition.

        Re: 69 vapor barrier panels

M'Lady, Reba, advised me of this wonder WELL after I'd bought and installed my current AK door panels, Dick. Problem is, I actually DRIVE my Shark and I've racked up 60K miles now doing Founders Award.

That means I've spent considerable time in the cockpit and I'll be HORNSWAGGLED if I can stand the ROCK HARD, inflexible, door panel products AK inflicted on me even if he does provide them with cardboard backing!

Gosh, I can remember when Al and his then wife, Joan, had their shop in Garden City, MI and lived nearby outside Pontiac. Great folks and approachable. But, since the business grew and moved to El Paso, just try and get Al to answer a letter....

Ah ha. I read the original question differently. Since I only judge interiors under extreme duress, I'll leave those details of your post to those more familiar with that area.
