Tony Check the vacumn system for leaks or hoses not hooked up right. If you can raise the headlights after the car is shut off two minutes your system is pretty good. This should be your goal. Lyle

      Hi Lyle.

Two minutes huh? OK. Now I have something quantitative to work with.

      Thank you.

Re: C3 water leak and vacuum feedback

In addition, it could be one leak or (more likely) several leaks that are hurting you here.

Buy the vacuum troubleshooting manuals (one from NCRS, one from Dr. Rebuild) and go through the system. You'll then realize that you're not getting a lot of answers on the vacuum question because there are, well, at least 10 "correct" answers and possibilities.

        Good luck,

Fair enough. I'll get at least one if not both of those books. Thanks Patrick.

I believe that there are several good articles in the NCRS Restorer magazine. I believe that the late John Woods did an in-depth article on trouble shooting

Any particular article? Which issue (s)?

              Thank you.

Re: C3 water leak and vacuum feedback

Tony Leaks are hard to find with no storage of vacuum after you shut off the engine the leak quits as the vacuum is gone and while it is running you can't hear the leak. A long clear plastic hose from a running car outsde can provide vacuum to your Corvette while it is not running so you can hear the leak. I find that the relays leak on many systems. Lyle

Hey. That's a real great tip, Lyle. I'm definately going to use that one.
Is hose length a factor? What is the maximum length I should use before loading down the supply vehicle occurs, if at all?

Tony I think 25 feet should be enough and just use the small clear plastic tube from the hardware. Their should be no load on the supply vehicle as your Corvette runs with vacuum leaks. Lyle

Re: C3 water leak and vacuum feedback

To solve my vaccum leaks I got a small vaccum pump. Connected it the hose that was connected to the engine vaccum source. Then I disconnected each vaccum hose one at a time. When the vaccum went up I then knew I had isolated the leaking component. I had a couple of hoses that were bad, but the big leak was at the metal housing check valve/splitter. Where the two sections were put together was a large air leak.
