    First Time Judging-1978

I need some advice on what is really important when having my car judged for the first time. I am having my 1978 Silver Anniversay judged at our local meet in Knoxville in October. There are some items that have been repaired/replaced but the car in good unrestored condition. I am not desiring to do anyhting other than get a solid list of what needs to be addressed to move the car forward in rating in the future. I have a small oil leak, (looks like rear main seal), and I will repair that before the meet. Should I do any other special cleaning or prep beforehand?

    Any advice greatly appreciated!

Clean it inside and out using non-agressive soap and soft brushes. Simple Green is good. The idea is to have the car as clean as it was on the dealer's showroom floor. Make sure your engine stamp pad is clean and free of paint (if that's correct for your year). Take out your spare and clean the tray. Remove your jack and handle, clean that area.

Bring all the original factory paperwork, owners manual, warranty info etc. Bring chairs to sit on and towels to lay your air cleaner and ignition shielding, the judges will ask you to remove these.

    Have fun.

      Hello Barry:

The best info will be the NCRS Technical Information Manual & Judging Guide. Also, try looking at the Rhode Island Corvette Club website info on the New England Corvette Judging Council. You'll find judging guidelines for judges, participants, and a judging form indicating what they are looking for and the point deductions.

I think most non-NCRS judging is pretty much the same...clean everything and then clean it again! Good luck.

I'm not familiar with the particulars of your local club, but most NCCC judging (like the recent "Corvettes America" show at the GM Tech Center) is "show-and-shine", which was described to those of us who assisted in their judging as "the relentless search for dirt"; not at all like NCRS originality judging.

If it's to be Concourse judged then it has to be cleaner then when it left the factory.
Also true for most any car show and NCRS

Barry - I assume you are having it judged at the NCRS Southeast Chapter meet in mid-October. True? It is being held at the Knoxville Fairgrounds at the same time as Corvette Expo. If so, prep it using whatever NCRS Judging manuals and reference books you have. You will get a good debrief after judging, and a list of what to work on for the next level. Without getting in the judges way, watch, listen, and take notes - it is a good learning experience. Lets hope all these Hurricanes have quit by then. At least the NCRS meet will be indoors up on the hill. Good luck with your car...Dick
