I have a '67 Corvette with manual brakes and would like to convert to pb. Do I need to change the master cylinder and what size bore would it require? I have a power brake booster off of a '67 but the rod that goes into the master cylinder extends out quite a bit and it will not work with my current master cylinder because it pushes the plunger in about 1". Does it take a special master cylinder for the power brakes or is this pb booster incorect or is there an adjustment on the extruding rod that goes into the master cylinder? Is there a 1 year only for the master cylinder or does it go up to early 70's? Any help or pictures would be appreciated...

Re: '67 Corvette pb
67's used the same master cylinder with or without J50 power brakes - casting #5455509, stamped "DC" at the front; this master cylinder had the deep-hole rear piston (due to its dual usage with manual brakes, which require the deep-hole piston for safety reasons), which is why the '67 booster has the "long" pushrod. This is one of the few applications where a power brake master cylinder uses the "deep" hole rear piston instead of the more commonly-used "shallow-hole" rear piston and short booster pushrod.- Top
