    C2 windshield washer

C2 washer at times will function normally, other times no flow. I routinely try to prime the pump with a syringe, but get little or no resistance when
depressing the switch. Am I missing something obvious? Is it time for a simple rebuild with new diapram, or are we looking at repacing the motor(if possible)?
    Thanks.

        John,

You can probably obtain a rebuild kit for the pump that just has the small rubber valves and use them to fix your pump. The rubber gets hard, sticks to the plastic seat or won't seal at all. Usually this will fix the pump and save on a complete rebuild.

        Regards,

        JR

          Use my 'acid' test....

Disconnect the reservoir to pump feeder hose. Cut a length of similar diameter washer hose and connect to the pump's inlet nipple. Fill your mouth with water and BLOW.

If the internal seals of the pump (triple O-ring between nipple plate and umbrella valve plate, and outer circular ring between valve plate and pump piston) are intact, you WILL be able for force water through the pump and out the squirter nozzles! But, if the seals are worn (disuse, allowed to run dry), you'll suceed in forcing water out the side of the pump's 'sandwiched' nipple/valve assy and it's time to replace inner seals (almost always the triple O-ring).

Pump rebuild kits from Trico/Anco will provide the triple O-ring along with either stone black or snow white nipple & valve plate assy's.... Trying to re-torque the screws that hold the pump's sandwich assy together IF the seals are shot will ususally result in cracking the plastic of the pump's plate assys....

Once you're happy you've solved the leak(s), remember to periodically exercise the WSW pump just like you do the engine. Going dry is 'death' to these pumps....
