    Goodyear Tire Dating

Last winter I replaced the Goodyear Polyglas tires on my '71 with a set of T/A's. Today I decided to clean the Goodyear's up for a future install. While cleaning them, I noticed that one of them where a little different. The White lettering stands a little more proud and the lettering look slightly different. In addition, this tire was stamped on both sides with a serial number, where others only on the backside. In addition, the view inside the tire, the ribs of the belts are more spaced apart than the other 4.

Now to my question. Stamped on both sides are "B7NDLJD1". Can this be broken down to year and month?

    Thanks

    Robert

Robert- I think that Terry McManmon knows how to decode the tire numbers. In any event, the date won't match up to your car because Polyglas weren't used on '71s.

      Robert/Charlie,
The code given appears to be a pre January 1971 code. After that they went to the 11 digit code which I call the long code. Seems funny that a Polyglass tire (vintage 1973) would have the short code. The only Goodyears that I have seen with the short code are Nylon Cord.

I have a set of NOS Goodyear Custom Wide Tread Redline belted tires (Polyglass) with the short date code, dated May 1969. I don't know if these tires were original equipment on any cars of that time.

          Everett,

As I mentioned they were made prior to Jan. 1971 if they have the short date. I guess polyglass were made in 1970 or earlier even though they were not chosen to be installed on Corvettes. Maybe the General thought Nylon cord was better than Polyglass. There are lots of possibilities.
