    C3 Electrical Problem

77 C3 with electrical problems. Two weeks ago while turning into parking lot, the car lost all electrical power. Checked battery, had lots of fire. I fiddled around under the hood and power returned. Cruised last tuesday. Wed. morning I had no power. Sat. morning I opened the door and the interior lights indicated the power had returned. (I did nothing to the car after it did not start wed.)

Please help, any suggestion on cause and fix will be greatly appreciated.

I think that I would start where the body feed (about a #10 guage red wire)wiring starts, I believe the large post on the starter solenoid on you car. I would follow this to the fusible link. Usually the link is either good or bad. If you still have no problems to this area, I would check the connector where the harness goes into the firewall. Good chance that your problems are in this 6 or so feet of wiring. Loose, corroded, chaffed, or broken connectors would probably be your culprit.

      Dick,

With our beloved older corvettes, corrosion causes lots of problems in the electrical system. I would first check out the battery ground connection to the frame. Our '69 need some cleaning and proctection from future corrosion. CRC has an electrical protectorant that I use on all such connections. If that does not solve your problem, check out additional grounds as required to solve your problem.

Good luck, just my 2 cents worth.

With our fascination for plastic things comes the down side, many many places for bad grounds.Probably more electrical problems from gounds than shorts.
