C3 air dam (Part number question).

Hi, I was attempting to find an original air dam for my 68 and I think I found a later modle one. It has the part number 03974013 embosses and stamped on it. I suspect it is 1970 or later. Thanks, Terry

Terry, as you suspect, the lower front air dam or spoiler that you have is a service replacement. Originals, for at least 68-72, do not have part numbers embossed on them

Not sure what to think. It sounds like it is an acceptable part for my car. Are they fairly hard to find? I paid good money for this one. Do you know if there is any way to identify an origial 68 or 69 other than the bolt pattern? Thank you for your responce, Terry

        Terry-----

You're right. The original front spoiler used for 1968 and 1969 Corvettes was GM #3932933. It was discontinued from SERVICE in May, 1970 and replaced by the 70-72 front spoiler GM #3974013. There are some slight differences between the 3932933 and the 3974013. However, as far as I know, the 3932933 is not reproduced. Used examples are very likely to suffer from significant "curb damage" and would probably be "unpresentable". Finding an NOS example 34 years after the piece was discontinued is unlikely.

Thank you for your responce. Do know if the GM #3932933 had any identifying numbers on it? I suspect it might not have any numbers on it and the only way to identify it is with the location of the bolt holes. Thanks again, Terry
