i have just completed the 69 that i thank all members for their assistance. seem to want to complete another . i know it is difficult to ask what a 58 may be worth all tore apart even non orig engine but what is a somewhat complete 58 worth with a solid texas frame and a body that has seen the track and ahit to the left rear quarter . it is a basket case , they are the only ones i can afford at first. i have been checking out these cobra kits . just suspect that a completed 58 would be a nicer piece. your thoughts appreciated.

Re: 58 basket case
I bought a basket case for 15K seven years ago. The guy took it apart to restore so it was complete. It had about 4k of items already purchased.
Make sure it's complete. I will have another 20k to 25k in it doing everything right. If you can stay under 40k for the project and make it even 2nd flight quality. . . That's where i'm at and I'm happy.

Re: 58 basket case
Kelly,
If the link to this auction doesn't scare you, then nothing will. The advise to know what is there and what replacement parts will cost is very good. This is pretty important for any project car purchase. (ask me how I know... )
good luck,

Re: 58 basket case
Kelly, I gave 9K for my 58 basket case five years ago. I think the magic objective is can you complete it for under 40K to include your purchase. I expect to have about 32K to 35K in mine. Oh, doesn't look like I will be including trunk spears in this figure. I live in Belton, Texas and would be more than willing to go with you (Waco/Austin/Fort Worth) to conduct an inventory based on my experience with the 58's. I am more than willing to assist you in any way!- Top

Re: 58 basket case
Its always cheaper to purchase a car done then it is to build one your self. But I am sure we all know that RIGHT? I was shopping for a C1 and it seems the 58'S were definatly bringing the highest dollars,Something about the truck and the hood you just have to love
Good luck in your quest. When I was shopping for a C1 project car I went to look at the cars with an assembly manual and several part supplier manuals to get an idea of what was missing and how much it would cost to replace it.Most folks will be very understanding and they also get an idea of what the missing parts will cost to replace. I also take plenty of digital pictures of the car (incase I didnt make a deal on it that day I can reveiw the photos to compare it to another car or to refresh my memory)
Again Good Luck
I just recenty purchased a 62 for a tube frame convertion (allthought I never admit to what I paid for it the wife might be listening) I could of almost purchase a nicely restored mustang for the money
Why didnt I fall in love with Jeeps or Model A'S- Top

Re: Those Kirkham Cobras are pretty nice
Insuring it is another thing. One thing I noticed on several insurance web sites were that they did NOT insure the Cobra kits. They did insure other kit cars, like the Model A kits, and the fake MG-TD kits and such.
I did talk to a few Cobra kit owners at a local show a few months back and they said insuring wasn't bad from the right place, and if you belonged to their club.- Top
