    DISTRIBUTOR VACUUM QUESTION

On a stock distributor for a '64 327/365 (Delco #1111069) is the vacuum advance set-up a "timed" vacuum (no vacuum at idle) or a "manifold" vacuum (all the time). THANKS

    Re: DISTRIBUTOR VACUUM QUESTION

The term is "ported vacuum" not timed. Your engine has full manifold vacuum advacne. The vacuum advance port provides a full manifold vacuum to the vacuum can at all times including idle.

Ported vacuum advance is an emission control technique that was used on later emission controlled engines beginning with 1966 California engines that were the first that had to meet tailpipe emission standards.

Your engine should idle with around 30 degree of total idle timing, which is the sum of initial, full vacuum, and a couple of degrees of centrifugal being as how it starts at 700, which is below what the engine will idle with acceptable quality and stability.
