    Early 66 Shifter Bracket

I had to pull the tranny to get to the starter ring gear on the flywheel. When I pulled the shifter I noticed it did not look like I expected.
The documentation I have makes me believe it should look like my 64. A solid piece of stock with counter sunk allen bolts to attach to the tranny.
The one I removed was a much thinner stamped piece.
Can someone tell me which is correct?

    Gary-----

The 1964-65 shifter mounting plate was different than the early 1966 shifter mounting plate. For 64-65, the plate was GM #3846848. For early 1966 it was GM #3887440. The difference in these parts is the difference that you're seeing. Why the change? I don't know. Later 1966 went to the shifter mounted on the crossmember-mounted bracket, so the GM #3887440 plate was only used for a short while.
