    Re: t10 vs muncie

The manual is correct that the VINs should match, but does not state what is and what is not judged. Conversly, there are many other things that ARE judged, but are not detailed in the manual. The books are in a constant state of revision and improvement.

One reason the transmission VIN is not judged in the difficulty factor of gaining access while the car is sitting on it's wheels, vs the typical waistline dimension of most judges. mea culpa.

Re: t10 vs muncie - crawl under and check

The average age for most of NCRS is what, 55? 60?

Ever see a 60 year old guy get down and crawl under a Corvette in a grassy field or an asphalt parking lot?

What is supposed to be judged, and what people can realistically check are two different things. However, occasionally, they have a lift available from a vendor, and then there are more detailed inspections.

As a long-time 62 judge and team leader, I'd like to weigh in here. 1) The manual is not only a judging manual, but a technical guide. 2) 25 years ago, when we 55-60 guys were younger and slimmer, we still couldn't get far en ough under a car to check the VIN on the tranny, but we could then, and still can now, get under far enough to tell by the configuration of the bottom of the transmission and the profile of the side cover whether it was a Muncie or a T-10. 3) if the car is and will alwalys be a driver, you're ahead by having a Muncie--if you're going to NCRS the car, you'll want a T-10. 4) The clutch disc and flywheel and pressure plate interchange between a Muncie and a T-10 5) The shifter bolts up identically to a T-10 or a Muncie as far as the main shifter body is concerned. You'll need different shifter rods and levers between the two, and Central and others sell Muncie rods and levers.
        Hope this helps.

Twenty-five years ago, we all did a lot of things we would never do now.

I think even a 55 year old guy would have a mirror to see that it is a Muncie or BW especially if they have them to check spark plugs like Duke was saying. Of course, I didn't see much crawling on the ground at Old Town this year, but there must have been 100 guys under that '57 on the lift.

Probably the only time something like that was safe. If the car had fallen, there were so many under it, they could have held it up until someone set the lift back up.
