Removed a passenger series (60's era) rear axle setup from my project 58. I have since acquired a 57 corvette posi banjo. I have not been able to find any rear axle bearing retainers. The passenger retainers I have are too deep and are not interchangeable. Where would I most likely find these retainers?

These are getting hard to find. Don't know of anybody making reproductions. Check with vendors that handle used parts, Grossmueller's, Paragon etc. You could also put an ad in the Driveline.

I went through the same search 6/8 mos ago and if memory serves actually found an early pass (maybe 64) retainer with the correct offset. I believe there are at least three offset configs. Proper retainers are a bear to find and I don't think at this time anyone repopping. Good luck-- Joel Miller- Top

Re: C1 Rear Axle Bearing Retainers
The 55-6 pass car retainer, axles, and bearing are TOTALLY different from 57-later Vette parts. The 55-6 pass car AND 56 Vette (only year) use the same axles, bearing and retainer. Because of a design change in the end of the axle tubes, beginning with 57 (car and Vette), you CANNOT interchange ANYTHING between 56 and 57 (other than the center section). The 55-6 pass car and 56 Vette retainers are CONSIDERABLY deeper than 57-later retainers.
The entire 53-55 Vette rear axle housing assembly has a lot of things in common with the 49-54 pass car rears. NOTHING between 53-55 Vette rears is shared with 56-later Vette rears. For example, 53-55 Vette axles are the C-clip type.- Top
