    1977 350 truck block

I have a 1977 350 four bolt main truck engine that I plan to work up to a respectful horse power for my 68.

My question is what if any differences were there between say a Corvette four bolt main 350 and this truck engine?

Is it all about heads, bore and fuel delivery systems?

It's most likely an 0010 block. If so there are no differences on the block that I know of.

        Re: Just some ideas

        I figure on
        72cc heads with 2.02 intakes and 1.600 exhaust valves....Eagle H-beam rods....Speed Pro Pistons....234/242 duration cam....Roller timing chain....performer low rise aluminum intake....and oh yeah headers!

Of course I'm whiffing in the breeze so don't get on me Duke

Thanks for getting back to me Guy's

          Chuckster,

Unless you are planning on seeing 6000 RPM and up, the 2.02/1.60 valves are not necessary. From the 234/242 duration cam, I doubt you are.

I assume the low duration is because you want a nice calm hydraulic cam for low maintenance. Duke will go on about how low maintenance the solid lifte cams are, but you are probably looking for zero maintenance.

I'd run a cam around .460 to .475 lift, 260 duration, and have some fun. Easily done in hydraulic. Or simply pick up an L82 cam. This is especially true if you have an automatic behind it. The cam you seem to have picked will drop power around 3500 or so and you will not maintain power under passing conditions to the full range the transmission keeps you in second (passing) gear. You want power to continue at least as high as your shift points on the transmission.

Odds are the heads are 333882 and they are 77.5 cc chambers. With a flattop notched piston with 3.4 cc notches, you will be running about 9:1 compression on a stock bore. It will go up some with an overbore.

The -882 head is prone to cracks, so be sure to have someone use Magnaflux inspection on them. They will work well on the street if you clean the intake ports up some.

The H-beam rods are overkill on what you have so far unless you are getting them cheap.

          Have fun.

Re: I'll be bang shifting all the way Mike

            Great points Mike.

If you don't mind, I'd like to feed you some product information when I get to the short strokes (no pun intended) on actual equipment planning/purchases to get your feedback.

The last thing I want to do is pour a ton of money into a poorly planned poor performer.

            Thanks again,

            Chuck

Is that 234/242 duration an 'advertised' or .050 duration? If that is the .050 duration, that's a pretty healthy cam for a 350. Also, and I'm no engine builder, that's a lot of cam for something like 882 heads.

has to be at .050" lift. You would be hard pressed to find a cam with that little advertised duration.
