    t-10

    Thanks everyone for your posts.
I have to make a decision based on the great info and that is does the wrong trans significantly effect the value of an otherwise mostly numbers matching 62 340 HP.I did notice other things that will have an impact on NCRS judging those being: overfinished base coat clear coat, wrong radiator, wrong battery, wrong tires. Thanks again.

    Re: t-10 - realistically

The Value the Muncie removes due to a T-10 belonging there is this:

    T-10 -- $500
    Misc shifter parts - $50
Different yoke - $75-100 (you may get lucky and find one in a box for $5.)
    New tranny mount - $20
new Clutch disc -- $50 (you are in there, if at all worn, replace and have 50,000 worry-free miles.)

Ok, you have $720 involved if you and a couple of friends change out the tranny one Saturday afternoon.

That doesn't even count that you can sell the Muncie for probably the same amount and thus the swap is nearly free!

If you consider this significant, then the car must be priced dirt cheap so it is a large percentage of the price, or you have stretched too far from the financial area you should be playing in.

Your profile says nothing about you, so if you are old, find a friend with a lift. If you are young, you probably have a friend with a lift, or ramps, or something.

This is where the local club or chapter comes in handy - guys who love the same car you do and are probably willing to help work on it.

Corvettes are not about "how much, write a check, drive off" at least not restoration. They are about getting to know them and work on them and drive them. This is a hobby of restoring cars, not about paying someone to restore them.

If you find a '62 for sale with such minor things as the wrong tranny, wrong radiator, and wrong tires, COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS. Many drag home cars to find they have the wrong everything.

Of course, you never mentioned a price. The car may be overpriced for what it is or it may be cheap because of what it is.

And for years, half the fun to most with old Corvettes is not having one to show off, but having one to drive and tinker with to make right. The fun of swap meets and wandering for days to find that elusive part you need is the fun, not writing a check to any of 100 vendors to send a part to you.

      Re: t-10 - realistically

      Thanks Mike,
i did not want to get into the actual dollars here as that is not really in the spirit of technical discussion. My focus was and is to figure out if the original transmission missing is a big problem from an NCRS view equating to a future value diminishment . I am willing to pay the asking price as I believe I am looking at a premium, unhit, original car. I know what it takes to restore one of these cars and this one is true concourse quality. I have been in the car hobby for a while and have had all types of collectable cars foreign and domestic. As far as working on the cars, I probebly could but I would rather spend my spare time enjoying it in other ways like driving and showing.

Don't be concerned about the transmission lowering the value of the car. Don't know about the other stuff, though.

            Re: t-10

I'll disagree with Chris---if a car is really nice, and has original motor, I would not pay the same price for the car if it had a wrong trans. The nicer the car, the more the incorrect trans devalues the car--not enough to keep me from buying it, but certainly enough to make it a bargaining chip.

And by the way, since 1974 I've owned 28 62's, so I'm not a novice in that area.

                No better words spoken Mike.

Half the reward of the journey is the satisfaction of getting dirty and swinging the wrenches....of course in my humble opinion.

                  Transmission value?

I would agree as well, with Mike Ernst

Especially the desireable M22 version of the Muncie put in L88's & LS6's. I would consider this a definite loss of value to the overall price of the car.
