    FOUND our car's protector plate!!!!!

    WOHOO!!!!!!!!!!!

    Check this out.

Can someone help me decipher it a little bit? Underneath the engine block casting number is the number "P7M30". I think the "0" is a zero, and not an "oh".

Also, underneath the VIN is the following number: "A00829W"

Also, the engine block code is as follows: "V0824HTH". This does NOT match exactly with what is on the engine block itself. The engine block does not show the last "H". Any thoughts on that?

Also, there is an "H" at the end of the VIN, does that mean hardtop?

I AM SO EXCITED!!!!!!!!! Our car was delivered to Southview Chevrolet in South Saint Paul, MN on 11/10/1966. That makes sense because the build sequence is 100183 (VERY early 67).

The H on the end of V0824HTH means the engine has a Holley carb as opposed to a Rochester.

      Chris,

There's a neat article on the 1967 Protect-0-Plate on the Restorer CD which explains the meaning of the codes. From that Article by John Amwert, your noted codes are:

      P7M30 is the Transmission ID code P (Muncie 4 speed) 7 (1967) M (August) 30 (30th)

AO0829W is the Rear Axle Number AO (3.70 Positraction) 0829 (August 29 assembly date) W (Warren Axle Plant)

V0824HTH is the original engine ID code V (Flint Engine Plant) 0824 (August 24)
HT (1966 350HP manual transmission*) H (Holley Carb)

*The book I'm pulling the codes from is the "Corvette Restoration Guide 1963-1967", which lists the HT code only under 1966. I don't find an HT code listed under 1967 although the book could be wrong. Maybe as an early 67, they used a 66 code. I'm hoping someone else will chime in on this.

The Corvette Black Book does list the HT for 1967 model year as a 327/350 HP with manual transmission.

Chris the H at the end of the VIN on the protecto-plate also identifies Holley carb.

Wow, thanks Mike for the VERY detailed response. Now all I have to do is crawl underneath the car and check the rear axle ratio code and the tranny code. If they line up, then our car is completely original.

After that, the only other task is to drop the tank and check for a tank sticker......
