I have a three year old Exide battery in my 66' and I noticed that a mustard color residue has built-up on top of the battery by one of the cell cap areas. Is this an indication that the battery is being overcharged or is the battery just going bad? The car starts up fine from a cold start so the battery is still putting out sufficient power. Thanks

Is this a "maintenance type battery" - one that requires periodic water addition?
If so and only one cell is showing deposit buildup, it could be that cell is overfull.
If your ammeter is normally not more that a needle width or two above the zero line then it is probably not overcharging, but you should check system voltage and make sure it is in the range of 13.5-14.5 volts when the engine is running.
