I will be replacing a tired, non original,327 in my 1966 Coupe. I will be dropping a zz383 stroker GM Crate motor in the car. I have a 3:55 rear end in the car. The transmission is a 4 speed Muncie and it is tired too. Is there a good 5 speed transmission that would mate with this engine and rear end combination that would take me down the interstate but still be quick around town? I now have a Hurst shifter in the car and will also be looking for a new shifter set up. Any suggestions will be welcome.

Re: 1966 replacement 5 speed trans
There was a company at the Winter Regional in Old Town that had the 5 speed and 6 speed setups for earlier Corvettes. They had a '66 coupe with a 5 speed in it and it was a slick set up.
It ran about $2800 for the 5 speed if I remember correctly. I can't remember the name and I can't find the flyer.
You can check this out about installing one in an '82. Differetn than your '66, but gives you ideas.
Here is the Tremec conversion:
This may be the place, looking at their web site.
