I'm going to remove the sticker, and hopefully not destroy it. This car is never leaving the family (at not on my watch). And I'd much rather have it hanging up in my home office than underneath some fiberglass in the garage. The car is a part of the family and will always be that way.

Thanks the tips so far guys. Gotta get back to homework before I can tear into the car this weekend.

      Cheers!

        Chris,

If you have decided to remove the sticker, you need to look into some preservation methods. I don't think it would be wise to expose it to sunlight or any light for long periods of time, as it will deteriorate very rapidly. For my sticker, I purchased two pieces of 1/2" thick Lucite (or equivalent) and sandwiched the sticker between them. I store it in a black cloth bag. I don't know if this was the best method as I've heard that plastic increases the deterioration process. You may want to call local museums or colleges and ask for some different methods of preserving old documents.

          Chris,

Siphon the gas out of the tank until it looks to be almost dry. That way you will only have to deal with a couple of ounces of gas when you pull the flexible fuel line to the sender.

For now, I have a couple pieces of cardboard I can sandwich it between to protect it from the light, until I can get something more permanent. I don't have it out yet, so I've got plenty of time to figure something out. Thanks for your comments on the Lucite.
