While it is an accepted fact that there were no BB cars built in the '67 model year with A.O. Smith bodies, does this also apply to the '65 and '66 model years?

Tank Sticker on your AO Smith 67?
I would guess this: If the true reason AO Smith could not do the hoods was their lack of painting tools or skills, there could have been some done (early?) before they lost the job.
Seems to me there must be somebody out there (Michigan or Florida?) who worked for AO Smith or GM and knows the story.
Or the archives?

Re: Tank Sticker on your AO Smith 67?
So we have two posters that say they have '66 BB A.O. Smith cars with documentation.
Does anyone know if the BB cars are accepted by the NCRS as having been built at A.O.Smith during the '65 / '66 model years. Also is there any further input as to '67 model year cars.
So far the information does not show a definite direction.
Can anyone else add more insight?- Top

Re: Tank Sticker on your AO Smith 67?
The article on A.O. Smith Bodies, Part II, on the "Restorer" CD from the Winter, 1980 issue (George McFarlane interview), has several photos of either '65 or '66 big-blocks in the A.O. Smith paint booths. Dunno about '67.- Top

Re: Tank Sticker on your AO Smith 67?
I always understood the reason that no 67 BB cars were made at AO Smith was a "hood stripe painting issue". The lack of ability, desire or added expense that GM was not willing to pay at this contract supplier.- Top
