          Happening More Often Now...

Sorry..it's like some kind of sinister force is tapped into my optic nerve causing me to read things that aren't there. Yep, sounds like he's done it before.

              what we need is

a bearing company to come out with a rod bearing insert that the OD fits the new GM PM rods with a ID that fits the small journal crank pin.

                Re: what we need is

You know, I also wondered why this wouldn't work. There are probably good reasons or would have already been marketed.

Or how about a thicker bearing with a kachillion little needle bearings. You know kind of a "roller" type rod bearing?

                  Re: what we need is

The only way to implement a roller bearing is to have what is called a "built up crank". The crankshaft is in peices, then the caged roller bearings are installed and the crankshaft pressed together. This is the way the old Honda twins from the sixties and seventies were constructed. Roller bearings eliminate the need for pressurized lubrication.

The new GM powdered metal rods with the bearings for small journal will make for a very durable package - up to and including 6500 rev mechanical lifter engines. For the money is is probably the best choice, but, Clem, we need a manufacturer and part number for those thick shell bearings for 2" journals.

the market is most likely too small but

they did do this for the 400 SBC mains so you could use 350 cranks.

bearing spacer could be made just

like they had for the 400 blocks mains to use 350 cranks before the the thicker main bearing shells came out. with the cost of the proper size conrods it is not cost efective to tool up for the thicker bearing inserts.
