    SQUEEKING FAN BELT REMEDY

I installed the reproduction belts from Quanta. The power steering belt is noisy even when tightened to specs. Has anyone found a product to apply to the belt to eliminate squeeking. I don't want to use something that might end up all over the engine compartment.

Is this squeeking from slipping or squeeking from not fitting right?

If from slipping, be sure the pulley groove is clean and rust free. If the belt has rust along the sides, clean it off before re-installing.

I'm not sure, but it is an "exact repro" from Quanta, so I would like to believe it fits correctly. It doesn't squeek until the wheel is turned, but goes away after driving for a couple minutes or so. The pulley is original, newly painted and clean.

Sounds like your belt needs tightening. A little.

Had the same problem with my 66 BB with PS and AC. Quanta belts looks great and have the right markings but when it comes time to perform they take a dive. When cycled a few times and heated up they stretch and become worthless for a driver. Since there is only limited adjustment with the power steering and none with the crankshaft to water pump, you must find a suitable belt other than the numbers game.

Dayco "Top Cog" belts are outstanding (after judging)

Not sure who actually makes the belt, but I got a PS belt for my '68 L79 from Paragon and it seems fine. Probably have several hundred miles on it to date.
