    1996 PKE problem

All of the sudden Thursday, the PKE stopped working. When I leave the car, it no longer locks the doors and arms the alarm. I tried reprograming it and I have replaced the battery. The indicator on the information system shows that it is activated too... F..... electronics! When you approach the car, it is supposed to disengage the alarm, turn the interior lights on and unlock the doors. It don't???

    Don------

The term "PKE" is a term in the vernacular for "Passive Keyless Entry". The "official" term is "EKE" for "Electronic Keyless Entry". No matter, though as this is just a matter of semantics.

The ONLY way that anyone is going to effectively and efficiently troubleshoot this system is to use the protocols and procedures found in the 1996 Corvette Factory Service Manual. There's just no other way to do it effectively and efficiently.

Notwithstanding that, I suspect that the problem lies either with the receiver or the transmitter. The reciever is GM #10261112 and it's still available, but carries a GM list price of $305.87. The transmitter was GM #10282929 but that's recently been replaced by GM #88960923. Either way, they list for about 140 bucks. So, it would not be effiicient to try a "shotgun" repair approach on this one, especially if the problem is neither the receiver nor transmitter.

Just imagine what it'll cost to repair that one line item 20 years from now when prepping for a P.V.

        John-----

...and when the parts are long-discontinued from GM with not an NOS example to be found...

C4s are going to be the one of the greatest challenges EVER for restorers of the future. C1-C3 restoration problems will pale in comparison. C4s are the highest content and most complex Corvettes ever built and they'll likely ALWAYS hold that "title".
