While JR's answer is somewhat funny, my 71 had a Midas system when I bought it in 94, and it stayed on until 18 months ago when I removed it to put on undercar chambered style. It actually sounded quite good...
Anyway, I know that Corvette Central will build you a carbon steel system, but you will get aluminized mufflers as that's the only type they have. I would suspect that a call to Allen's exhaust may also show similar results.

Patrick: My corvette central book says that they sell carbon steel up to 1974. Anything after that is aluminized. I will call them tommorow and talk to them.
Carbon steel systems are available from suppliers like Allen's Exhaust. However, keep in mind that we're talking about the exhaust PIPES. I don't know of any 63+ Corvette that originally used a muffler with a plain, carbon steel shell or wrap. These were either aluminized, galvanized, or stainless.
Also, regardless of what the original pipes were, I wouldn't EVER use a plain carbon steel exhaust pipe. They may be original for many applications but they quickly take on a distinctly "redish color" which is absolutely NOT original for ANY application. For me, stainless pipes are the ONLY way to go. However, aluminized will suffice for most folks.
