aluminum intake manifold

I'm looking for another aluminum intake for my 64. Do I need to find one that has a casting date????? (if they have them) or just buy one when one becomes available. Thanks in advance.

You need one with a 3844461 casting number but dates are pretty much irrelevent. On these manifolds, the casting dates were on the bottom of the manifold. Often they are under the stamped steel oil shield, too. In any event, only a judge with x-ray vision (like Superman had) will be able to discern the date.

Thanks again Joe for your input. Years ago, I decided that I wanted the polish and chrome look on my engine so I laborously filed,sanded and polished my original intake!! As Dr. Phil would say today:"What were you thinking?"(I wasn't)and, end of story.

You might want to try the reskinning method that is plugged frequently on this forum. I have to say the results I've seen have been excellent. A nice uded 3844461 will run you $250-300. Not sure what reskinning will cost but at least it will allow you to keep an original part of your engine.

I'm not sure - but here's a link to the place that many NCRS members recommend. Whatever method they use, they take old and damaged aluminum and make it look brand new. There is no paint or temporary coating involved.
