Better tell Mr. Amgwert that his wonderful book

              is wrong.

"1968-1982 Corvette Spec Guide. page 3,

              Engine Identification;

1967-1982 :Engines were prefixed with a source designation ("V" for 1967 and later Flint small blocks and "T" for Tonawanda New York, big blocks)"

I don't remember the Flint factory ever using 'T'

                Mikey,

T refers to truck in suffix (3 letter TKW code) and the V refers, of course, to Flint.

John's book is correct for Corvettes. No Corvette small block motors were ever ASSEMBLED in Tonawanda. Cast, yes. Assembled, no.

                  Mikey,

Mr. Amgwert has not worked for NCRS for several year and the present team leaders have had adequate time to change any errors that might have occured in typing, printing or misinformation.

I feel that the NCRS was lucky to have a person like John Amgwert, during the early years, that had the time and was willing to contribute a sizeable portion of his life to that "Wonderful Book".

As having been associated with the NCRS for several years, that brings me to another point. This organization should do something to honor the founding fathers of the NCRS. Yes, I know their names are published with each copy of "The Corvette Restorer". With contributions to an organization like those made by John Amgwert, Sam Folz and Gary Mortimer, something sizeable should be done to recognize their dedication to the NCRS and the Corvette hobby.

Now, I will get down from the soap box. Thanks for listening!

                  Regards,

                  JR

So you guys are saying that an engine

with a stamping of V0924TKW as Dennis stated above was NOT made in Flint?

Re: So you guys are saying that an engine

                      No. Reread my post.
V means Flint, but TKW means TRUCK engine. V(Flint assembled motor)0924 (of Sept 24th) TKW (with a suffix code of TKW telling us it originally belonged in a truck).
                      Yes, Flint made Truck engines!

IF it had been T0924TKW, then Tonawanda would have built it.

Just like CKW is for a car, TKW is for a truck. I suppose your 73 motor has a suffix too. Maybe it's for a truck.

Patrick, Mikey was probably confused by the fact your previous post was answering a question he wasn't asking. Thanks for clarifying that engines stamped "V" (The Prefix) were made in Flint, and those installed in trucks had a "T"...in "The Suffix". I was scratching my head too.

                          Close to correct-

I was referring to the post by Dennis stating that this was a Tonawanda engine and by Joe Ray inferring that the spec. book needed to be corrected.

Yes, MDE, I'm aware that SUFFIXs that start with a T are most often truck engines. See you in DFW?

I haven't signed up for DFW yet. I was waiting for my schedule to come out. I have that weekend off, but I'm not sure if 1) there are still openings, or 2) finances will permit. I have a meeting tonight which may help clarify that.

                              I figured you knew about T vs. C. Dad's 72 has a T motor.
