At what point in time did the mold crack that resulted in the line through the "O" on the small block aluminum valve covers? When it comes to judging,do judges look for the presence of the line if the car was manufactured after that date?

Bill is right and...
...it's kind'a fun to follow the progression from when the mold crack first appeared in mid '66 and how it became more pronounced as time went on. Finally reached a point where it's pretty ugly.Comment

I find it hard to believe that there was ....
... only a single mould used by the supplier (Lester ?) of these valve covers. Or, as these were a "cosmetic" item, that GM would allow this imperfection to continue for 2 or 3 years. I'm not denying this happened -- the proof is in the original production.Comment

That mold is still in use (by Paragon, who now owns it), and the crack is still thereComment
