X an the end of exhaust manifold number

I came across a right side exhaust manifold that was originally on a 65 corvette 250HP 327. At the end of the part number there is an X. The references that I have do not mention anything about the X. Is there any significance to this?

On some castings, an "x" was added by the foundry when a pattern change was made to alert the engine plant that machined them that a change had been made in the pattern and this casting was from the first run of that revised pattern; if Mark Gorney sees this, he may have more info.
