can anyone tell me when rebuilding the upper A-Arm how much space should there be where the upper outter shaft is (side to side). I mean after the two gaskets are on--how much space should there be between the gasket and the upper A-Arm?

i've recently rebuilt mine front end,
But the gaskets you refering to are just some sort of 2 o rings. If i'm right you just put the upper arm by manouvring from left to right over the two threads. After that you have to screw a nut on each side that nut has also a thread on the outer side (very little and most of time a bit worn out) the o ring has to be put in between. The whole tighting is a process of getting the upper arm in the middle by screwing the both nuts at equal distance from the frame.
I gan sent you some pictures, but maybe i've misunderstood your problem. If so please let me know, I've done a complete rebuilt on my 54 so if there is something a might know.
