    Horn Button

I am replacing the horn button on my 1970 convertable and need help. How does the horn button come off? I have been told it just snaps off by prying it up. Also, the replacment horn button and emblem is in three pieces. How are the three little posts bent or flattened to hold the emblem and back plate in place? Thanks.

    (1) Horn button simply 'snaps' in/out of the retaining clips.

    (2) Originals were 1-piece with the center emblem held in place by 'studs' in the pot metal horn ring 'preened' over the inside retaining plate.

    (3) There's a 'correct' pattern to the crossed-flag black/white checkering in the emblem that seemed to change on an annual basis depending on what Chevy marketing felt was neat/right--so check you copy of the Judging Guide before you install the separate pieces only to find the horn ring emblem you got isn't 'right' for your year Corvette!

Jack, Thanks for the response. The old horn button popped off real easy and the new one snapped right back on. I used a center punch to flatten or peen the three pot metal posts over to hold the emblem and back plate in place. It seems very tight and secure. I was not able to match the "correct" flag pattern, with the first upper left square in black like my original. I checked every major Corvette "restoration" parts supplier catalog, but all had the same emblem with the white square first. If I find the correct emblem in NOS I'll replace it again.
      Thanks, Jim
