    C-2 Alternator dating question???

I am trying to find a 696 alternator for my June 21,1967 built car. What would be the most correct date range to search for?? I understand 6 months before the car was built will pass judging. I am looking for what was most likely the date the car was built with. 67 L79 K66 4SPD P/S. I did find a 7C28, seems a bit early.. Thanks, Kurt

        Kurt -

If you found a 696 within the 6-month window, I'd buy it and not worry about how close it is to the car's build date; those things are getting VERY rare.

It is more important to me to find what would be "Most Correct". I have time to wait for the right one. I was told there is a book out, that lists component dates in relation to vehicle build dates. The info from fellow 67 cars and their dates is greatly appreciated. Seems like May would be the BEST month.. Kurt

            Kurt,

            I agree with John.

I'm only 36 (well, 37 in a month) but I still have a January alternator for my June built 71. Why? While I have time to look for a "more" correct one, I have only seen 3-5 1100544 alternators for 1971 model year cars in the 10+ years I have been looking, and that includes those on cars. So when the opportunity arose to purchase one, I did. If I ever am lucky enough to find an April or May alternator I will purchase that and sell the January one.

My original water pump is dated August of 1970 (!), so a January alternator doesn't bother me excessively.

                Kurt

I have a one owner 4 Star Bowtie 67 built end of March. Most all the components on the car are original and are dated in March. I can not speak to the end of the production year as well as March, but in general I think dates were grouped pretty tight. My car has the engine casting date and assembly stamp, the body build date (AO Smith), the altenator, and a couple of other items all within a day!

Nolands Adams book my have some reference dates that would help you, but I would guess your cars' original altenator was dated within a few weeks of the acutal vehicle assembly. Like others, I would settle for the 6 mo. window until the perfect one is found.

                Regards

                Gary

I found a correct dated alternator for my 67 (2nd week of June 67) from John Pirkle. He restores them to NCRS standards and he has an excellent reputation. His number is 706-860-9047
