    hard brake pedel

1966 power brake car. Poor brakes Guys I have replaced the power vacuum / master cylinder/ rear rotors/ brake lines/ and all 4 calipers and have bleed the system many times. My brake pedel sits very low and has only 1 inch of stroke. The pedel is very hard. no soft feel at all. My problem is the car does not stop at all like it should. Any idea why my pedel sits so low and the pedel stroke is so short. It should be as much as 2.75"

Don do you have the master cylinder you removed? If so does the new master cylinder and the old master cylinder have the same depth in the piston for the brake rod? Did you do the replacement work? Did you bench bleed the master cylinder and purge all air before you installed it? Are you getting good flow from from each caliper when bled?

Jim I replaced this whole system with a guy who has works on corvette 5 days a week for a dozen years. I took the master cylinder off, and the rod lenght appears to fit into the master cyl fine. When I unbolted the master cylinder the rod did not push the master cylinder away. (I thought maybe that the rod was miss adjusted and might be part way into the stroke.) It looks like it is ok. The brake pedel sits low. If I disconnect the rod from the power brake vacuum I can lift the pedel maybe 1/8" to 1/4" max thats all. The book says I should get up to 2.1/4" of pedel movement. A long ways away from my 1" I am getting now. The car does not feel like the brakes have much power. No front end drop when I brake hard.
Front brakes working????? How can I check if to see if I am only using the back brakes.??? Any ideas
