    Bowtie Judging events

I am trying to find the right event to attend so I can have my 69 judged in the Bowtie category. There are so many events and I can not figure out which would be the best place to go. I am specifically looking for a Southeast event. Can anyone direct me? I know about the Winter Regional in Daytona, but it does not appear that there is judging for Bowtie at this event but only the opportunity to display your car. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Bowtie judging is held only once each year, at the annual National Convention. Next year is Park City, Utah. The 2006 Convention is in New Orleans, LA.

To qualify your car for Bowtie Judging you must have it examined and approved by the team leader at a Regional Judging meet.

Thanks for responding. I am still learning and apprecite the direction, especially about the regional team leader approval. I did not realize that was my first step. Good to know before I show up at National hoping to be judged and find I could not as I had not completed the first step. Thanks again.

Ann, a good start would be a local chapter event. Not necessarily a judging event, but where several knowledgeable members would be there. They could give you direction. Also I would order the Judging Reference Manual from the NCRS store. This can be done online from the home page. It will explain the whole Star/Bowtie judging process along with the Flight, PV, Duntov/McClellan awards. More than you ever wanted to know about awards.

The SouthEast is hosting an event in two weeks at Knoxville. The Carolinas just had a judging/social event last weekend. I am not sure what the SE has planned later in the year, but I believe that the Carolinas has a tech session event scheduled November 20th in Wilkesboro, NC.

I am sure that there are several members, no matter where you live, that would be glad to take the time to look at you car and help you out.

I look forward to seeing your car on the field.

          Ann:

Dickie's point is well taken...have the car looked at at a chapter event which will simply have the local expertise look the car over and confirm that it is indeed a Bowtie candidate. It's the regional event that qualfies the Corvette for national Bowtie judging. A team will pour over the car and a recommendation be made by section (chassid, mechanical, interior and exterior). The "Corvette Judging Reference Manual" lists the guidelines and I believe you will find it quite helpful as you ready for Bowtie juding. Good Luck!

Under the new qualifying rules that went into place in 2003, the car must register for judging at a Regional, not just be examined by the Team Leader. The owner does have some options though. Read the complete update in Spring 2003 RESTORER.

Ann, also on the NCRS homepage, there is a brief overview of the Bowtie/Star award program. It is under the NCRS Judging Awards

                Ann,
The Florida Chapter sponsered NCRS Winter Regional Meet is at Old Town in Kissimmee, not Daytona. We'd enjoy seeing you and your '69 there in January.

                  Re: Minor Correction & Invitation

Thanks for the information. If I want a Team Leader to look at the car to see if it would indeed be a Bowtie canidate, is there a special form I need to fill out or do I tell them when I register? There is no place on the registration form to indicate that you want your car looked at, pre-judged or anything else as those that have responded have indicated I need to do first. Thanks to all who have shared their knowledge in this area. This is a great site with lots of great information.

It sure is refreshing to see a lady involved in the hobby. Too bad I can't convince my wife to be more involved other than going for a ride.

                      Ann,
At the time of registration you must make a note on the registration form that you would like to present the car as a Bowtie candidate. There is no registration cost for that review. After registration is complete the meet chairman will notify the appropriate team leader with that request along with the mumber/type of registered flight judged cars for that team leaders class. At the regional meet the team leader will review your car in detail and make comments to you about your star/bowtie possibilities. Its a great program. Having done it twice I would strongly recommend you give it a try.

                        Re: Minor Correction & Invitation

I would go ahead and register for flight judging as it is a prerequsite for Star/Bowtie Judging. When you arrive make the team leader for 68-72 aware that you have interest in presenting your car for Star/Bowtie Judging. He will evaluate your car and give you his opinion whether or not the car has potential. He makes no guarantees that you will receive any award, just that he thinks that it does (does not) have the potential

I love my Corvette and all the people involved in our local car shows. It is a time consuming hobby but well worth it. I love talking with other people and getting their input and thugh my vette is not in great condition cosmetically, it is all original and drives like a dream. My husband fully supports my enthusiasm and encourages my participation in all shows which is great since he is the driver when we trailer the car long distance. Maybe she has a dream car in mind that you could purchase for her and that will give her the bug. Glad to be part of such a great group.
